Reds gun down Gunners

London: Liverpool showed no signs of fatigue from their midweek exertions with a counter-attacking masterclass to dismantle Arsenal in a highly convincing 4-0 Premier League victory at Anfield, Sunday.

The curse of Wembley strikes again as Chris Wood denied Tottenham a win, set by Dele Alli’s 49th-minute goal, with a stunning finish in the injury time.

Arsene Wenger shuffled his back three after last weekend’s dismal 1-0 defeat at Stoke City but they were left exposed when Liverpool regained possession high up the pitch and Roberto Firmino headed in the opener.

The visitors were caught out again when Sadio Mane finished off a move that flew from one box to the other and some woeful defending from the bungling Hector Bellerin allowed Mohamed Salah to surge clear to put the result beyond doubt in the second half. Daniel Sturridge, a 74th-minute replacement for Mane, added gloss to the scoreline.

Earlier, Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Morata scored goals to cement Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Everton. Fabregas opened the scoring after 27 minutes at the Stamford Bridge. Morata struck the second goal five minutes from the break to secure the second straight win for the defending champions, who have six points after three games.

Manchester United leads the Premier League table with nine points heading into the international break. Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini came off the bench for the Red Devils to defeat a resolute Leicester City at Old Trafford, Saturday.
