Bhubaneswar: Sath-Sath, an exhibition of exquisite paintings, was organized by the Orissa Modern Art Gallery (OMAG), to raise funds for the victims of floods in Kerala. The exhibition was organized at OMAG, Forest Park here Tuesday.
The artists came forward to offer their talent and time so that more people get encouraged to be part of the exhibition for a cause. The paintings displayed at the expo are for sale and the money coming out of it would be donated to the flood victims of Kerala through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The paintings will be collected from art events such as Voice of Colours, Art Era and Shilipi Diwas hosted by OMAG earlier this month. The paintings on display include modern art, figurative art, periodic painting, semi-figurative, contemporary, landscape and water colours. The paintings are priced between Rs 1000 and Rs 30,000.
This is the first of its kind exhibition in Bhubaneswar from the artists’ community to extend support to people of Kerala. At least 50 paintings drawn by a similar number of artists are on display at the expo which will remain open till September 5.
Gallery founder Tarakant Parida said, “This is a noble work. I remember the super cyclone in my area Jagatsinghpur which was miserably affected. At that time, the people of Kerala had helped us and it is time for us to repay in terms of our gratitude to them. So, I am doing this to support them. The loss is so much that no donation can actually be adequate. This way, if we can contribute through our art, it will be a real service to humanity.”
Sath-Sath convener Satyabrata Jena said the exhibition will be a platform for the artist to promote their paintings and the collections from the show will also help Kerala’s flood-affected people.
Rajya Sabha MP and sculptor Raghunath Mahapatra, senior journalist Pradosh Pattanaik and cine critic Dilip Halli were among the dignitaries who were present at the expo.
