Cuttack: Soon, the urology department of Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) will have robotic surgery facility.
According to sources, SCBMCH will be the first government hospital in the state to have the robotic surgery facility. At present, the facility is available in 20 private hospitals in the country.
“Complicated urological surgeries can be performed through the robotic technology. Patients will not lose a single drop of blood in robotic surgery. SCBMCH will charge around `30,000 for robotic surgery while many private hospitals in the country are charging anywhere between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh for the service,” said urology department chief Datteswar Hota.
According to sources, the urology department has been planning to introduce advanced technologies for kidney transplantation. “We have conducted kidney transplantation on 85 patients so far. The efficiency of urology department in conducting the complicated surgery will be enhanced with the introduction of advanced technology in the coming days,” Hota said.
A proposal has been mooted for the establishment of an uro-nephrology centre at the hospital, Hota indicated.
“Now, our primary motto is to train at least four urology specialists in robotic surgery every year to help provide quality healthcare for the people. People suffering from urological complications should come to SCBMCH for treatment,” Hota added.
