Bhubaneswar: The Centre would provide Rs 171 crore to state in next three years for development of Malkangiri and Koraput, the two districts that are mostly affected by left wing extremism (LWE).
The Centre has recently started implementing National Policy and Action Plan (NPAP) to combat Maoists. Under the plan, 35 worst LWE districts of seven states would get Special Central Assistance (SCA). The states are Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, sources said here Saturday.
Each district will receive Rs 28.57 crore per annum for next three years. It means Orissa will get Rs 171.42 crore in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. This fiscal, the Centre would provide Rs 57.14 crore at one go as there is hardly two months left to spend the amount, the source said.
For next two years, the funds will be provided in two instalments—`20 crore per district in first phase and remaining Rs8.57 crore per district in the second round, the source said.
As per the guidelines issued by the Centre in this regard, district authorities have to prepare the District Action Plan and submit it to the state government for approval. Ministry of Home Affairs will, later, clear
the plan.
The district level committee, headed by the collector concerned, will be responsible for implementation of the scheme and would have flexibility to spend the funds as per requirement keeping in view the overall development of the district concerned.
While there are 19 districts in Orissa, which are affected by Maoist menace, only two are considered as worst hit.
The Centre would also provide Rs 2 crore per year to each of the two districts under Special Infrastructure Scheme (SIS) while other 17 districts will get Rs 1 crore each per annum for infrastructure development of vulnerable police stations. This funding will continue till 2019-20.
