Koraput/Jeypore, August 7: The Central government would set up a software technology park with an investment of Rs 10-crore here in Koraput district that would become operational by the end of 2017.
A two-member team comprising director of Software Technology Park of India (STPI) Manas Ranjan Panda and deputy secretary Aditya Mohapatra of state IT department Friday visited a government land at Phulabada area under Umuri mouza here in the afternoon. Panda is in-charge of existing software parks of Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand. The proposed site which was earmarked by the state administration is ideally located alongside NH-26, sources said.
The team held discussions with the officials about the distance of the nearest railway station, airport and the engineering colleges of the town. A detailed report would be submitted to the IT departments of the state and Central government following inspection of other facilities available here, Panda said.
An eight-member team comprising officials of software technology departments of state and Central government came to the town Thursday to identify the proposed site for the project. A nodal officer of national e-governance along with Panda and Mohapatra was part of the team.
According to reports, about 20 multi-national software companies would function in the park spread across three acres of land. Though `10 crore would be pumped into the project at the preliminary stage, more funds would be invested at a later stage, the team members said. The district administration has promised to extend all cooperation in this regard, STPI director Panda said.
Among others, assistant collector Santosh Satpathy, e-governance manager Manoj Dash and tehsildar Rabi Narayan Majhi were present at the site.
It may be noted that, there are already four software parks in the state. The Orissa government had approached the IT department of Central government last year to set up software parks in Rayagada, Jajpur, Bhawanipatna, Angul and Sambalpur districts. In the first phase, the team visited Sambalpur, Angul and Jajpur districts.
