Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday announced a string of welfare projects for Utkal University, including the setting up of an eco-friendly campus, a centre for development of entrepreneurship and a Rs 100crore assistance for infrastructure development.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for one boys’ and two girls’ hostels at the University campus during the annual day celebrations of its students union here. “It is sad that none of the universities in the country is to be found in the global list of top 200 universities. We have to work hard to achieve such milestones. Utkal University has in the past had glorious achievements. I hope it will continue to perform well in the future,” said Patnaik.
Advising the students to aim for a bright future, Patnaik urged students to take care of three things in their life — their career, duties to their parents and their role in the society. “I hope the students here have the capability to restore the past glory of the state and accordingly work and grow,” said the CM.
Bhubaneswar north MLA Priyadarshi Mishra said youths were the future of the world and they should take the name and fame of Vani Vihar to the world at large. Bhubaneswar mayor Aanant Narayan Jena echoed the sentiments. He told the students that all should work in tandem to achieve best results for the university.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the state has achieved numerous feats in the field of education like setting up of NISER, IIT, IIM and many more. It should be carried forward with the help and support of the government as well as the students here,” said Pradeep Panigrahy, minister for higher education.
