Keonjhar: After remaining closed for months together due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Sanaghagara waterfall in Keonjhar was reopened recently for tourists.
With winter and pleasant weather around the corner, it is expected that footfalls will only increase at this scenic location. Now however, the number of tourists is still quite minimal.
This is because tourists are not allowed to come in large groups. Also picnicking or organising cultural programmes are strictly prohibited.
Locals and experts are hoping that the place will gradually attract more tourists in the coming days with ease of restrictions. Earlier, people used to wait for a long time to enjoy boating facility available.
However, since the outbreak of the pandemic the boats are lying idle. The Sanaghagara waterfall is located close to National Highway 49 and four kilometres from the district headquarters. It is near Anjar village.
The water cascades down creating a rhythmic sound and meanders away through lush greenery. The scenery appears to be a perfect picture with a clear blue sky and birds chirping merrily in the background.
The Sanamachhakandana river meanders away in the locality and finds its way through rocks and hills before finally falling from a huge rock from where it gets divided into two streams at the bottom.
There are also a rose garden, a flower park, a children’s park with swings and an artificial lake to attract tourists. The Bada Ghagara is about six kilometres from the Sanamachhakandana river.
Locals have demanded that the administration should allow picnicking and feasts for tourists to normalise the situation.
