Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rescheduled the joint demarcation and verifi cation of the old Satara Nala bridge in Pandara’s Abdulnagar area to October 3 after heavy rainfall disrupted the exercise planned for September 23.
In a letter issued by the BMC Land Section September 28, Deputy Commissioner (Land) asked the Bhubaneswar Tahasildar to bring the relevant land records and other particulars to the site for verification and preparation of a sketch map.
The civic body has also directed concerned field staff, including the Amin and Revenue Inspector (RI), to remain present at the exercise, scheduled for 11:30 am. The exercise aims to establish the exact boundaries of the bridge, its embankments and adjoining plots with reference to official land records.
The findings will facilitate preparation of a sketch map and help ascertain the precise land status of the structure and its surroundings. A joint fi eld inspection of the Satara Nala bridge was conducted August 13 by offi cials and fi eld staff of the BMC Land Section, its North Zone and the Odisha State Archaeology department.
During the inspection, Archaeology department officials identified the bridge and recorded its approximate dimensions as 9 feet 6 inches by 10 feet 6 inches. However, the embankments could not be fully measured as some portions were inaccessible or obstructed.
Officials subsequently decided to verify the bridge, embankments and adjoining plots against relevant land records for proper demarcation. The latest communication was issued in reference to a July 7, 2026 letter from the Superintendent of Odisha State Archaeology regarding the joint inquiry into the structure. The demarcation is important for documenting the old bridge and establishing its precise boundaries.
