BHUBANESWAR: Guinness book record holder Satyapira Padhan from Odisha was conferred with the prestigious Karamveer Chakra Award and Global Young Leader Fellowship instituted by United Nations (UN) and ICONGO at IIT, New Delhi recently.
Upon his return to the state, he was given a hero’s welcome Tuesday at the Biju Patnaik international Airport (BPIA). Pradhan said, “After beating the Guinness record twice, I guided and trained 25 students from various fields to beat records. This is precisely why I was awarded with the prize.”
He added, “I always believe in the 3D formula: dedication, decision and determination. I also want to thank my teachers and supporters for this award. I thank chief minister Naveen Patnaik for his constant support and encouragement. I want to train more and more youngsters in field of martial art and sports and train them to achieve world records like him.”
Satypira Padhan is also an avid social activist. He has set up a welfare fund for poor patients who can’t afford medical treatment. He also encourages girls to take up sports. He conducts free education drives in slum areas apart from cleanliness drives.
A former student of Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, Satyapira September 27, 2018, had struck 312 one hand punches in a minute holding a one kg weight to break the record of 260 punches, which was the previous record Guinness World record.
Earlier June 21, 2017, Padhan had attempted to set a record of throwing the maximum number of punches with one hand in a minute. He broke the record of Pakistan’s Muhammad Rashid, who had scored 377 punches in a minute on October 22, 2016 when his record was approved by Guinness World Records authorities in January.
