Bhubaneswar: The heat wave continued Friday in Odisha with the state capital registering its maximum temperature this season. The mercury touched a record 40.8 degree Celsius in the state capital Friday. As the mercury soared, roads became empty as most people preferred staying indoors.
Prior to Friday’s temperature, the highest of 40.2 degree Celsius was recorded in the Odisha capital April 18.
Other places where the mercury crossed the 40°C mark in Odisha were Paralakhemundi and Boudh. The maximum temperature at both the places stood at 41°C.
The Regional Meteorological Centre also said that there will not be any respite from the heat wave in the near future. It said that day temperatures are likely to soar by 3-5°C across Odisha from Saturday. If that happens, it will certainly be agonising for the people of the state.
The Met however, also issued thunderstorm warnings Saturday for several districts of Odisha. “Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak tomorrow,” the Met office said in a release.
If that happens, it will certainly bring a sense of relief to the people where thunderstorms occur.
