Sambalpur: Intensifying their demands for establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in western Odisha, the Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA) has decided to hold a bandh every month for three days. A decision in this regard was taken at a general body meeting here Thursday.
Officials of the (SDBA) said that during the bandh, they would request all state and central government offices, insurance companies and banks to remain closed. However, it was decided that the educational institutions and emergency services would be spared from the bandh.
The lawyers have been staging dharanas, strikes and economic blockades to press for their demand. They even met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging prompt action. It should be stated here that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier recommended that a permanent bench of Odisha High Court be set up at Sambalpur.
Notably, the State Government had formed a committee, headed by the Additional Chief secretary as chairman. The other members of the panel were Principal Secretaries of Finance, Revenue and Law Departments and Special Secretary in-charge of Home (High Court), in the month of March.
District Action Committee, president, Pradeep Bahidar presided over the meeting held Thursday.
