Chandahandi: The Nabarangpur district administration Monday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPc on the Chhattisgarh-Chandahandi border in view of the construction of a Rs 18-crore dam project at Amada, on the confluence point of Tel and Barehi rivers.
A revenue team led by tehsildar Hrudananda Singh Majhi and IIC Taranisen Nayak put up a red flag and clamped the prohibitory order which would be in force for the next three months. This was to prevent the entry of Chhattisgarh people into Odisha.
The farmers urged Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh to set up a dam on river Tel for irrigation when he last visited Amada village under Deobhog block in the neighbouring state. Singh, promising to look into the matter, immediately sanctioned money for the construction of the dam and a firm was roped in to complete the project.
Soon after, Nabarangpur Collector and revenue officials visited the proposed site and found that the area belongs to Chhattisgarh.
Dipak Kumar Pathak, an executive engineer of Chhattisgarh, said the project won’t harm the interests of Odisha. Moreover, the farmers of Chandahandi can draw the water using pumps to use it in cultivation, he added.
However, the district administration has clamped the ban orders as a precautionary measure, it was learnt.
