Bhubaneswar, Nov 16: Sekunta Kullu of (Khurda) emerged the fastest woman in Orissa by winning the 100 metres in the State-level Women Sports Meet which started at the Kalinga Stadium, Monday. Sekunta clocked a time of 12.40 seconds. She was followed by Tapati Sahu (Khurda, 12.80s) and Rajeswari Das (Cuttack, 13.00s ) in second and third positions respectively.
In the women’s 800 metres Mitali Mallick of Puri clocked 2.23:00 seconds to emerge winner. The shot put title was bagged by Salomi Kispotta of Sundergarh with a throw of 9.93m. In the women’s high jump, Latika Basera of Khurda was the winner with a leap of 1.54 metres.
In women’s hockey the Sundergarh eves routed their two opponents on the day. First they defeated Deogarh 8-0 and in the second game trounced Angul 4-0. In another game, Khurda beat Sambalpur 5-0.
Subhrajeet shines
A fine spell of bowling by skipper Subhrajeet Singh (6/12) enabled Raghunath Jew College enter the semifinals of the Utkal University-organised Inter-College cricket tournament at the SCB Medical College Ground in Cuttack, Monday. In the quarterfinals Raghunath Jew College defeated their rivals, NSM City College comprehensively by seven wickets.
NSM, after being put in by the opposition could manage only 102 against some incisive bowling. Subhrajeet was well-supported by Abhishek Giri (3/25). Only Lokesh Mohanty (29, 26b, 4×4) could offer some resistance with the bat.
Chasing the victory target Raghunath Jew were never in any trouble and scored 106 for three in 20.3 overs. Md. Roshan (29, 50b, 1×4, 1×6) scripted the chase to ensure a comfortable victory for his side.
Snooker tourney
Jeet Kishore Das will face Subrat Das in the final of the 1st All Orissa Snooker Championships currently on at Cuttack. In the semifinals played Monday at the Golden King Snooker Centre, cueists Subrat and Jeet recorded identical 5-0 victories of Anuj Panda and Akash Mahapatra. The final comes off Tuesday.
