Cuttack: The 1,000-year-old Silver City witnessed grand celebration of ‘Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa’ Sunday, honoring one of the city’s most beloved traditional dishes. More than just a food item, Dahibara Aloodum represents the cultural identity and culinary heritage of the people of Cuttack.
March 1 every year is celebrated as Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa in the state. This tangy bowl of happiness is best enjoyed in Cuttack, a city famed for its 52 bazaars and 53 gullies, where the local flavors of Dahibara Aloodum still remain unmatched.
Cuttack district administration celebrated the day at Bali Jatra Talapadia, inviting well-known vendors to present their varieties and personal styles in stalls, food carts and innovative displays. The event drew a large crowd of food lovers, celebrating the city’s unique culinary heritage.
Subash Behera, a Dahibara Aloodum seller, said that the government should work to popularize the dish and gain worldwide attention. Several locals also demanded a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Dahibara Aloodum, which would officially recognize it as a unique culinary product of Cuttack and help protect its authenticity.
Responding to the demand, Cuttack District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde stated that plans are underway to promote the dish both across the country and abroad.
