Bhubaneswar: India will miss the spectacular phenomenon of a total solar eclipse Wednesday as only a partial eclipse will be visible from some parts of the country.
‘‘Partial eclipse will be seen from the eastern half of the country. In most of the places, the eclipse will start either before sunrise or at sunrise time – making the viewing of this cosmic event quite difficult,’’ said Pathani Samanta planetarium deputy director Subhendu Pattnaik.
The solar eclipse will be visible from a narrow region, which extends from the Indian Ocean through the East Asian countries like Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi passing through some islands of Australia and ending at the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Unfortunately for people of Orissa, when the disc of the moon covers the sun entirely creating darkness during the day, it will not be visible, instead ‘‘we will observe a partial eclipse of the Sun,’’ he said.
In the capital city, the eclipse will be in progress before the sunrise. The Sun will rise at 6am and at 6.03am the maximum partial (23 per cent) eclipse will be visible, he stated.
However, it would not visible at all places. The event may be visible from open spaces like the beach or top of fifth or sixth floored buildings, the deputy director said, and added, due to this reason, the planetarium authority has not made any arrangement for the public to see it.
