Baripada: Students were upset over the persistent problems in the hostel of Kendua government primary school in Shyamakhunta block in Mayurbhanj district. They had often drawn the attention of the authorities concerned towards their problems, but to no avail.
Frustrated, they wanted to take up the issue with the Collector. Seventeen out of the 40 students walked 15 km from the school and reached Baripada at 7 am Thursday.
However, they could not meet Collector Vineet Bhardwaj. They intimated their complaints to ADM Aboli Sunil Naravane and sub-collector Divyajyoti Parida.
The students were hell-bent on meeting the Collector.
Among the students were Ramai Hembram, Sudarhsan Singh, Thakura Majhi, Mohan Majhi, Ramdas Majhi and Masang Majhi.
They alleged that their care is not properly taken at the hostel and when they complain, the hostel authorities beat them.
With the help of samiti member Mali Majhi, the students came out of the hostel and trekked to the collectorate.
Later, district welfare officer Smrutiranjan Samantray met the students, but failed to convince them.
The sub-collector assured the students of looking into the matter and taking action against the guilty.
