Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Music lovers made a beeline to Rabindra Mandap to witness some fine classical music being performed by accomplished singers and musicians from across the state on the second day of the Odissi Music Festival Friday.
Renowned singers like Shyamamani Devi, Lata Ghosh, Raghunath Patra, Rasha Bihari Nath and Shantilata Chhotray delivered spirited performances.
Shyamamani Devi, who ranks among the finest singers in Odissi music, has been in the field for over 40 years. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honours such as Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Samman, and Sarala Award, besides felicitations by Presidents Rajendra Prasad and S Radhakrishnan in 1958 and 1962.
Lata Ghosh, another notable performer, is known for her mellifluous voice and versatility. She has performed several times on Doordarshan and All India Radio. Rasha Bihari Nath is another famous name who showed his prowess and won the hearts of many.
They were followed up by a powerhouse performance by Raghunath Patra, an accomplished singer and music composer from Paralakhemundi who performed Kalyani raag to round applause. He was provided able accompaniment by flautist V. Kurmanadham and others. Patra was initiated into music at an early age by his musician father. He has taken up the mantle and intends to make a name for himself as an established classical singer.
