Rourkela, Feb 21: Rourkela SP Anirudh Kumar Singh apologised Saturday on behalf of security officials for the ‘humiliation’ of Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Tirkey who was present during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s inauguration February 15 of the academic building of Biju Patnaik Institute of Technology here.
The apology came after BJD members headed by president Anand Mohanty and spokesperson Sudam Das, visited the
SP office and demanded apology for the MP’s embarrassment.
The chief minister along with Tirkey had gone in the same car to inaugurate the academic building for which the government has sanctioned Rs 150 crore (including Rs 30 crore for the laboratory complex).
However, newly joined security-in-charge DSP Rourkela SK Nayak caught Tirkey’s hand at the check point of the campus after the CM had entered the campus. He was released after Tirkey revealed his identity as a Rajya Sabha MP, but the camera had captured the unfortunate incident.
Following the embarrassment caused to the MP, residents of Rourkela expressed their anger and dissatisfaction at the manner in which the police force reacted.
BJD members expressed anger over the incident and visited the SP’s office at 11:00 am Saturday and complained about the incident to SP Singh. “We are sorry for the incident and assure that such incidents will not happen in future,” Singh said.
