Bhubaneswar: The state government Monday handed over appointment letters to 581 new medicos with a view to overcoming the acute shortage of doctors in government hospitals across Orissa.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik handed over the appointment letters to the new doctors at an event here. While congratulating the new health officers, Patnaik asked them to work hard with all sincerity to render better health services to the public.
Officials in the Health Department said that the state government will appoint 169 more homoeopathy doctors as well as 50 Ayurvedic doctors soon.
The move assumes significance as out of the 6,719 sanctioned posts of doctors, appointments have been made for only 5.032 posts, whereas the actual number of doctors required for various government health establishments is more than 8,000.
