New Delhi: The office of the Registrar General of India which carries out the Sample Registration Survey in the country has reported a decline in maternal mortality in Odisha.
As per the latest published statistics on Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) for 2014-16 in its bulletin, it has been claimed that MMR for Odisha stands at 180, a steep decline of 42 points as compared to its corresponding figures in the last 2011-13 survey.
The figures have been put forth through the Sample Registration Survey (SRS) from the office of the Registrar General of India which is entrusted with the task of carrying out the decadal Census and the SRS, measuring deaths and births. Moreover, among the Empowered Action Group (EAG) states Odisha reported the lowest MMR of 12.3. EAG states comprise Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Assam.
The key statistics presented in the Bulletin of the Registrar General is regarding the MMR. This is derived from maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births reported under the SRS.
