Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: The state government has decided to engage Central public sector undertaking Engineers India Limited (EIL) as project development and management consultant for the newly launched Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
“As per the guidelines of the scheme, the state government has decided to engage EIL for execution of the projects to be taken up under the AMRUT scheme. A state-level high-powered steering committee chaired by Chief Secretary had in-principle approved the proposal,” an official of the housing and urban development (H&UD) department said here Wednesday.
The government has convened a meeting with EIL officials October 13 here to finalise the proposal and consultation fees the company will charge, the official said.
EIL will also set up its project monitoring units at Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Berhampur, Cuttack, Sambalpur and Balasore. The six units will look after nine cities selected under the mission, sources said. Meanwhile, the state government Wednesday submitted its state annual action plan (SAAP) of AMRUT scheme for the 2015-16 to the Centre.
The state has proposed to execute 143 projects worth Rs 1345crore during the current fiscal. Moreover, the state has proposed 103 water supply projects costing Rs 1137.84crore, 14 sewerage projects of `125.79crore, one drainage projects of Rs 49.43crore and 25 park projects worth `32.82crore in its first annual plan under AMRUT, sources said.
The scheme will be implemented in nine cities, each with more than one lakh population. They are; Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak and Baripada.
The Centre will provide 50 per cent of the total project cost while state will provide the remaining 50 per cent under the project, sources added.
