Nilagiri: Police Monday arrested a college student on the charge of raping a Plus Two student and subsequently murdering her at Sanata under Nilagiri police limits in Balasore district.
According to sources, accused Manas Kumar Nayak (19) resided in a house of the girl’s uncle on rent and attended summer tuitions. He tried many a times to propose love to the girl but the latter spurned his proposal everytime. Upon learning the matter, the girl’s family confronted Manas and asked him to mend his ways.

Meanwhile, the girl’s elder sister fell ill and was admitted to the local hospital. Her mother stayed in the hospital while the girl took care of her siblings at home.
Taking advantage of the absence of the girl’s mother, Manas entered her house on the fateful day and raped her. He then allegedly killed the girl fearing police arrest, sources said.
Police registered a case of rape and murder over a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother and began an investigation. Actual reason of the death will be ascertained upon arrival of post-mortem report, police said. PNN
