Subarnapur: Two teachers of a residential school of Binika block in Subarnapur district have been hauled up for leaving a student out on a limb after he broke his arm during a game.
The student, reports allege, was sent back home without any treatment.
To make matters worse, the boy’s parents belonging to below poverty line (BPL) category have also failed to provide treatment. The incident has drawn severe flak from all quarters.
After coming to know of the matter, the Block Education Officer shot off a letter to the District Education Officer asking to freeze salaries of the errant staff and take action against them.
The letter of the BEO blamed two teachers who had allegedly dropped the boy on a motorbike in his village. The BEO also called for suspension of the two teachers for the callous and irresponsible manner in which they handled the student and dropped him at his home when his family members were absent.
As per the reports, the incident took place recently when the student was playing. He accidentally fell down and broke his hand. Instead of admitting him to a hospital, the boy, writhing in pain, was taken to his house. After hearing from their neighbours, parents of the boy rushed home and took him to the nearest hospital.
“We were not at home. Instead of taking him to a hospital, they left him here all alone. How could they be so insensitive?” mother of the injured boy asked.
However, the school headmaster Lekha Mishra refuted the allegations and said that it was the boy who asked them to drop him at home.
