Baripada: Student unrest broke out in North Orissa University at Takatpur in Mayurbhanj district Tuesday over the issue of honours subjects.
Plus-II students sans honours subjects closed the gate of the university and staged a sit-in.
Scores of students in all the degree colleges in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj under NOU are deprived of honours subjects.
They alleged that whenever they seek admission to PG courses, their applications stand rejected, leaving their post graduation dream shattered.
In previous years, students sans honours were being allowed for PG courses. This year, they were denied such facility even though many seats in various language and education departments are lying vacant, they lamented.
“We had taken up the issue with the NOU authorities August 14, but no step was taken. We were thus forced to go for the agitation,” a student alleged.
