Bhubaneswar: Vogue, the first Sufi band from the state, has collaborated with Rituraj Mohanty, Sushil Dalai and Sasanka Shekhar Sahoo to record a “semi Sufi album” featuring six tracks.
The video shooting of the album, titled ‘To Bina’, will begin March 12. ‘To Bina’ will be the first album of the band. Its title track and another number ‘Priya Re’ released in audio format last month.
The six tracks were written and sang by the band members during their days at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidalaya. Each member has sung two songs in the album.
Speaking to Orissa POST, Nihar Kant Swain, a member of the band, recounted his days at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidalaya. “When we were students of the university, we composed a few songs in the album and had also recorded a few. ‘To Bina’ was sung by Rituraj and the music was given by Sushil. The tracks were soulful and we decided to compile them into an album. Last year, the audio versions of ‘Piya re’ and ‘To Bina’ were released and received good response,” he said.
The songs are written by Ratnakar Dalai and Kiran Kishor. The music is Sushil’s and to Nihar Kant Swain goes the credit of video direction.
“Four of the six songs are a fusion of Sufi and rock and will surely be loved by listeners. The recordings are complete with only the title track to be shot,” Swain added.
The band’s members, Amit Jhansi of Prince Group and Rituraj will be seen in the video album which is slated for a Holi release.
Sasanka is preparing to participate in the upcoming season of music show reality ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’.
