Cuttack, July 5: Riding on a brace by Maneka Mallick, Sunshine edged past Mangala Club 2-1 in the inaugural match of the FAO Women’s League at the Bidanasi Club here Sunday.
Sunshine dominated the match in both the halves getting the major possession of the ball. They drew first blood as early as eighth minute through Maneka. The team maintained their solitary lead during the first half.
The second half saw Sunshine dominated the whole process and Maneka scored her second goal in the 42 minute. However after doubling their lead, Sunshine players became a bit complacent. Mangala Club players took advantage of it and Nikita Bishi found the back of the net in the 56th minute. But that was proved to be a consolation goal only as the defenders of Sunshine thwarted few goal attempts of the opposition.
