Surya Paraga Pare: Play with a social message

BHUBANESWAR: A three-day-long theatre fest, organised by Odisha Sangeet Nataka Akademi in association with Odisha Natak and Natyadhra, opened with Surya Paraga Pare at Bhanja Kala Mandap, Monday.

The play, staged by Panchadharani Natya Parishada, is A family-based drama depicting how problems between wife and husband can be resolved through sharing their thoughts.

Bijay Kumar Jena, secretary, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, Haren Sahoo, president, Odisha Natya Sangha, and Lala Biren Roy, secretary, Odisha Natya Sangha, were present at the function.

The story revolves around a boy and girl from their tender age to adulthood. They were neighbours when they were small and the girl used to tie Rakhi to the boy. After a few years, they move apart. While the girl marries an IAS officer, the boy becomes a professional painter. By quirk of fate, they become neighbours. But they are unaware that they were childhood neighbours.

One day, the girl’s husband asked his neighbour to paint something special to gift his wife. The painter paints the face of IAS officer’s wife from his childhood memories. After seeing the painting, the officer gets suspicious of his wife and thinks they have illegal relationship. Soon he starts fighting with his wife. A few days later, he comes to know that they are brother and sister.

Speaking to Orissa POST, director of the play Deepti Ranjan Dash said, “This play is to inform the society that all the relations need sharing of thoughts.”
