Suspected LeT militant killed

Srinagar, August 6: A suspected Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was Thursday killed in a brief gunfight with security forces in a village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, a day after a LeT terrorist was captured alive in Udhampur, police said.
The gunbattle erupted around 4 pm when the Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police cordoned off Asthan Mohalla locality of Kakapora, 32 km from here, on receiving specific inputs about militants hiding in a house, a police officer said. The militants opened fire on noticing the search party. However, the security forces retaliated, killing a militant who was later identified as Talib Hussain Shah.
Reinforcements, including Rashtriya Rifles personnel, joined the SOG party and a massive search operation was underway to track down other associates of Shah, the officer said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani troops breached ceasefire and targeted forward posts and civilian areas in Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC) for the second day running Thursday.
This was the third ceasefire violation in Sabzian sector in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir in the past 24 hours.
The Pakistani troops resorted to firing with automatic weapons, rocket projectile grenades and mortar bombs. “Pakistan continued firing on forward posts and civilian areas along LoC in Sabzian area of Poonch district through the night,” a defence spokesman said. The Army retaliated, resulting in heavy exchange of fire that was going on when the last reports came in from the area, he said.
No one was injured in the firing Thursday, said a police officer.
The Pakistani troops had targeted the same area Wednesday, injuring three civilians, the spokesperson said. Those injured Wednesday have been identified as Naseema, Mohmmad Ashraf and Abdul Ahad. PTI
