Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: Commissionerate Police Friday recovered the body of a construction company driver from a rest house near Biju Patnaik International Airport here.
Airfield police station officials reached the spot after being informed about the body by a supervisor of the company.
The deceased, identified as Nilachal Mishra from Aska in Ganjam district, was a driver with Banamali Rout constructions. Nilachal was residing with Mangal Dom from West Bengal. “Mangal was absconding after the incident,” the police said.
“The left hand of the deceased has swelling and left leg was also fractured. Preliminary investigation revealed Nilachal might have been murdered December 31,” Airfield inspector-in-charge Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo said.
Some liquor bottles found at the spot provides credence to the theory that there was a drunken brawl. “Probably Nilachal and Mangal were celebrating the New Year when a fight broke out between them. Blood stains were also found on the floor,” Sahoo said.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal police have been alerted about the murder and a case (2/15) has been registered.
