Jaipatna: A video clip of a married woman and her neighbour being tied to a tree and thrashed in the middle of the night by the woman’s in-laws has been making rounds on social media.
The in-laws who suspected an illicit affair between the two tied them to a tree with the help of some villagers before assaulting them in full public view. The video showed the woman, in her night dress, was held by her hair and assaulted. The man wore a lungi and had a shirt on.
The incident was reported from Kalampur under Jaipatna police station in Kalahandi district.
According to the victim, she wanted to talk to her husband in Visakhapatnam over phone which did not have adequate balance. So she gave a missed call to her neighbour Mantu Nayak. Nayak responded when she asked him to come to her house with the mobile phone so that she could talk to her husband.
No sooner did Mantu step into her house with the mobile phone, her father-in-law doubted him and alerted other family members who locked the two in a room, accusing them of having an illicit affair.
Later, they called other villagers and then dragged the two out of the house and stripped them. The two were then tied to a tree and roughed up by the in-laws while other villagers watched the thrashing.
Meanwhile, a villager shot the entire episode on his mobile phone and uploaded it on social media platforms that went viral in no time.
“I have no such relation with the woman. I just know her as she used to work for me before. So she asked me to make a call to her husband that night. But her family members misinterpreted my visit to her place and thrashed us after tying to a tree,” clarified Mantu.
The police have started an investigation in this regard.
