Bhubaneswar, April 5: Talcher remained hottest in the state for the second consecutive day with a highest recorded temperature of 43.2°C Sunday. The Met department here has recorded temperatures above the 40°C mark at as many as ten places in the state in the last 24 hours.
It has further predicted clear skies over many parts of the state in the coming days, in an indication of much hotter days ahead. “The state will witness a high rise in temperature from Tuesday. There are chances of light to moderate rain and thundershower at one or two places in north Orissa. Squally and gusty surface winds with speeds up to 70 kmph might prevail over the region in the next 24 hours,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
The temperature at Bhawanipatna stood at 42.2 degree C Sunday, followed by 42 degree C at Titilagarh, the MeT department said.
The mercury soared up to 41.7 degree Celsius in Angul, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.1 degree Celsius at Bolangir, 41 degree Celsius at Sambalpur, 40.6 degree Celsius at Jharsuguda, 40.4 degree Celsius in Malkangiri and 40.2 degree Celsius at both Hirakud and Sonepur.
Capital Bhubaneswar has once again recorded a moderate temperature of 36°C Sunday while the weatherman has forecast cloudy skies over the city and adjoining areas with little chances of rain in the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature may remain around 39°C in the city Monday, Met officials said.
