Patrapur: A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, a primary school teacher, over a family feud at Nandigaon village under Jarada police limits in Ganjam district Friday. The deceased was identified as Tukuni Behera, wife of the accused Kumud Ranjan Behera.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s parents, police registered a case and started an investigation.
According to reports, Tukuni, daughter of Ladukishore Behera of Ramchandrapur village under Patapur police limits was married to Kumud Ranjan, son of Patit Ranjan of Nandigaon in 2008.
Kumud worked at Titirisinghi under Patrapur block. However, his frequent drinking habit often led to discord in the family.
Meanwhile, Tukuni’s family members were shocked Friday to learn about her death. They rushed to the village to find out the truth. However, they found Kumud along with the villagers trying to cremate Tukuni’s body without the knowledge of the police.
On being informed, police seized the body from the cremation ground and sent it for post-mortem.
Tukuni’s father lodged a complaint with the police alleging his daughter was strangled to death by her husband Kumud.
