Baripada/Kuliana: In A Plus II student sustained critical injuries Monday afternoon after he was stabbed by another student, apparently in a violent fallout ofa love triangle on the premises of Baba Balia College (BB College) at Baiganbadia under Kuliana police limits in Mayurbhanj district, police said.
The victim was identified as Prahllad Bindhani, 17, a native of Tilakgadia village under Kuliana police limits and a Commerce student of the college.
The accused, an Arts student of the same college, is a resident of Sadar police limits in Baripada. The incident occurred following a dispute between the two over a triangular love affair.
During the confrontation, Prahllad was stabbed in the abdomen.
The injury was so severe that part of his internal organs protruded, officials said. College authorities rushed the student to a nearby hospital and later shifted him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Baripada.
As his condition remained critical, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Police detained the accused student and interrogated him in this connection.
Officers also seized the knife used in the attack. A case (208/25) has been registered at Kuliana police station, officials said.
According to a preliminary investigation, a long-standing rivalry between the two students involving a girl studying in the same college led to the altercation around 12:30 pm Monday.
Following a heated exchange, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Prahllad. Baripada Sadar SDPO Prabhat Kumar Mallik and investigating officer SI Prakash Kumar Gosain visited the scene and questioned the accused.
Police said the juvenile will be sent to a correctional home. Further investigations are underway.
