To test the honesty of Pakistani MPs, the Speaker of the National Assembly devised a light moment during the session. He held up a bundle of cash and asked lawmakers whose money it was, prompting 12 to 13 members to raise their hands. The video is now going viral on social media.
According to Pakistan’s Aaj TV, the unusual incident occurred in the National Assembly on Monday when Speaker Ayaz Sadiq found 10 PKR 5,000 notes, totalling about Rs 16,500, in the House. Waving the notes in the air, he asked members to identify the owner.

अब जितने पैसे नहीं थे उतने से अधिक सांसदों ने पैसे लेने के लिए अपना हाथ खड़ा कर दिया।😂🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/fDeJ2xm4Qa

“Whose money is this? Whoever it belongs to, please raise your hand,” the Speaker said as he held up the cash. To the surprise of those present, not just one or two but 12 lawmakers raised their hands.

“There are ten notes and twelve owners,” Sadiq joked, drawing laughter as more members began raising their hands. “Okay, whoever gave it to me,” he added, as the lighthearted moment briefly paused proceedings.
The cash, found before opposition members entered the chamber, quickly became the focus of attention. It was later confirmed that the money belonged to PTI MP Muhammad Iqbal Afridi, who later returned it.
As the video spread widely across social media, Pakistanis mocked the lawmakers for claiming the cash, while another section argued that the 12 MPs who raised their hands should be held in contempt of Parliament and dismissed.
