Jajpur Town: A 30-year-old patient who had been admitted after ingesting pesticide died Tuesday at Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) minutes after a nurse administered him an injection, his family alleged, sparking a sit-in on the hospital premises and police deployment. The deceased was identified as Bharat Das, son of Anadi Charan Das of Baunsakantia village under Jabara panchayat in Rasulpur block. Police and family sources said Bharat drank pesticide in a field Monday morning following an argument with a friend.
He was first taken to Jajpur Road Community Health Centre (CHC), where his condition improved, and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital for further care. Relatives said he was ambulant Tuesday morning and even stepped out for tea.
However, soon after a nurse gave him an injection, his condition deteriorated rapidly and he died. The family filed a written complaint against the nurse at Jajpur Town police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered case (389/25) and launched an investigation. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.
