Berhampur: Tension flared at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur Thursday following the death of a newborn baby allegedly due to medical negligence.
Janani Mohanty of Saradhapur village under Hinjilicut block in Ganjam district delivered a baby Thursday morning. However, the infant died a few moments later.
Irked over the newborn’s death, the family members created a ruckus on the premises of the hospital, alleging medical negligence.
They also got into a verbal spat with doctors and hospital staff.
The situation took an ugly turn when an elderly member of the family had allegedly been attacked by the hospital authorities.
On being informed, the police rushed to the spot and pacified the irate mob, assuring that an inquiry would be conducted and appropriate action would be taken.
