Commitment to a goal and conviction to pursue a dream often help one turn even the impossible possible. Perseverance pays. After winning Little Miss World title in Bulgaria March 17, little Mrigakshi R Kumar did Odisha proud again. She has won the Mini Category’s Little Miss Butterfly Universe and Best National Costume awards in Turkey, and is back home in a happy and relaxed mood. Orissa POST meets the little wonder to pose a few questions. Excerpts:
How did you feel when the Little Miss Butterfly Universe title came your way?
I am happy I won the title. Initially, I thought everyone’s getting an award, and I too am get
ting one. After a few minutes, I realised I have won a prestigious award and it was a memorable moment. In high spirits I was, I shouted, “I have won”.
How tough was the competition?
It was tough. Each of us in the contest was asked to create a country table. My table, as it turned out, was more colourful. My mom decorated the table with local food and artifacts. From Indian books to flowers, everything was special. My red carpet dress got the most attention. It was sheer red and black. My skills in public speaking and the confidence I displayed on stage, I suppose, won me the crown.
What was the winning question?
They asked me what was the name of Odisha’s Chief Minister. I gave the answer straight. In the talent round, I walked with Tri-Color Pom-poms. That too, I guess, won their hearts. I danced on the remix songs of Madhuri Dixit. It went off well.
Which dress won you the award?
I was dressed as Mughal queen Jodhabai, adorning myself with attractive ornaments of Indian make. This won me the maximum votes and helped me clinch the title.
Where are you heading for from here?
I have an invite from Georgia for a beauty pageant in December. I do not my role there: Whether as a presenter or as a jury member. I am game either way.
How did your family look at the crown?
My parents were happy. They could not believe their eyes as to what was happening on stage. My dad cried sitting among the audience as he watched me win the crown.
How do you balance your studies with such pursuits?
I had carried my books along with me and studied throughout the pageant. My teachers from Sai International, Anita ma’am and Natasha ma’am have always supported me in my pursuits and kept telling me to continue my studies even when I am abroad. That really helped a lot.
