Bhubaneswar: City girls always look for an opportunity to put up a better appearance. Be it a festival or a party or a special occasion, they always try out new fashions in dresses, styles in hairdo and make up. Now, the ‘in’ thing is nail art. It’s catching up with young girls as well as women in the capital city. They want to paint and decorate their nails. The demand is high for colourful designs and glittering and glistening nails. Nail designs include floral, various geometric shapes, thematic (like cartoons) and animal prints. To cater to such demand, many nail art studios have come up in the city, competing with each other to provide better services.

Speaking to Orissa POST, Sheena, the proprietor of Posh Nails, said: “We paint nails as per our customers’ demand. Sometimes they want flowers or some other pictures. They can also select designs from Internet and get their nails painted accordingly.” The studio provides services like nail art, permanent nail art, gel polish, gel overlay, permanent nail extension and others. Speaking about paint’s longevity, Sheena said that the nail art will last for 3 weeks or approximately a month if customer takes care of it. “Price differs according to designs. Max nail and shapes are more popular among youth.

As it is summer, youth love diamond shape. For normal paint, we take Rs 300 whereas Rs 1500 is charged for longevity paint,” she added. Professionals from New Delhi are working here to cater good services to people, Sheena said. Even Odia actresses like Poonam Mishra, Debjani Deghuria and Koyel Banerjee spent their time making their nails shiny, glittery and sober. Actress Poonam said, “I am very happy with the service provided by this studio.”

Debjani and Koyel were also satisfied after making their nails shiny. Another outlet, Sonata Salon, is
located near Chandrasekharpur. “We normally charge Rs 2500. The paint lasts for one month if their nails are oily; otherwise it may lift sooner,” said Sonata.

Social talk on nail art is spreading across the city and large numbers of city women are thronging these kinds of outlets to get their nails painted. A nursing student in a city based institute Suchitra Mohapatra, who painted her nails said, “Days are gone when a girl has to polish their nails with single colour paint. Apart from dress and hairstyle, now we experiment with new designs for our nails that can make us more beautiful and stunning. I like flowers and it looks like a bouquet for my nails. And its longevity is very good.” Pragnya Sethy, who painted studs designs on her nails said, “I was going to party and in order to match my party wear, I did studs designs. A darker pastel shade in the designing was eye-catching. It was just perfect with my outfit.” “I don’t like to do fancy designs on my nails. I was asked to try velvet design and honestly it was beautiful. The contrasting shades are perfect for any occasion,” said Niharika Das, a student of Rajdhani Colleg
