Bhubaneswar/Cuttack Road: The Laxmisagar police Tuesday arrested three persons for demanding Rs 1 lakh extortion money from a construction company here. They were produced in a court and remanded to judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas. The three are Santosh Rout alias Kanha (22), Ashok Das (41) and Santosh Behera (25).
Police seized a vibrator machine, two mobile phones and a motorbike from their possession.
According to sources, tender company Laxmi Construction with its head office in Ahmedabad, Gujarat had taken up a drainage work contract at the Chintamaneswari area in Laxmi Sagar.
The three reached the spot on a motorbike while the employees were busy overseeing the works. They demanded Rs 1 lakh as extortion money. and threatened to kill the employees if he did not give the money. After an argument, they forcibly took away the vibrator machine used for the drain construction work.
Based on a complaint filed by the construction company owner Kushal Singh, police registered a case and made the arrest. A probe is on.
