Rargarh/ Chandahandi: At least three people, including two couples, were killed in lightning in different regions of the state Saturday night and Sunday. The incidents occurred in Bargarh and Chandahandi.
In the first incident, a married couple was killed in their sleep after being struck by lightning inside their house at Bisipali village under Padampur police limits in Bargarh district late Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Kailash Bariha and his wife Kishori Bariha.
According to sources, the couple was asleep Saturday night when lightning struck their house. Later, the fire triggered by the lightning engulfed the house. Their neighbours noticed smoke and flames coming out of the house and rushed to rescue the couple. Although they doused the blaze, the couple was charred to death.
On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the bodies for post-mortem.
In the second incident, a woman died due to lightning strike at Baidamada under Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sarabu Poda. Sarabu was in her farmland when lightning struck.
A complaint was lodged with police in this connection. Police seized the body and registered a case of unnatural death.
