Jeypore: A day after a mentally challenged man was tortured by cops, with his mouth taped and limbs tied, in Nayagarh, two youths were allegedly assaulted in full public view by two cops who were in an inebriated state at Gandhinagar square in Jeypore area in Koraput district, Wednesday night.
The incident has spread outrage in the area. Locals demanded immediate suspension and action against the erring cops. The two youths have been identified as Sampad Rout (21) and Biswas Pradhan (22).
The two cops have been identified as HK Seth and Anil Panda. The incident took place around 11.30 PM when the two friends Sampad and Biswas were going towards an ATM kiosk to withdraw money.
HK Seth and Anil Panda, the two cops who were patrolling in the locality, beat the youths leaving them injured. The policemen allegedly committed the act under the influence of liquor.
The Jeypore Town police and kin of the victims rescued the injured youths and admitted them to the district headquarters hospital. Police have started investigation into the incident.
Repeated highhandedness of the cops have become a matter of concern.
