City girl Namrata Mohanty topped the state in the science stream in the Central Board of Secondary Examination’s Class XII examination, the results of which were announced Monday. Mohanty, a student of DAV Public School, Unit VIII, who scored 493 out of 500 marks to get 98.60 per cent, spoke about her preparations for the examination and her future plans.

OP What was your reaction once you learnt that you were the topper in the state in science?
NM I initially did not know that I became the topper in the state. I looked up my marks on the internet. Later, around 3 pm, I came to know that I am a topper. It was a big moment for me and my family. Actually I cannot express my joy.
OP How did you prepare for the examination?
NM Success does not come easily. You have to toil hard for it. I used to study seven to eight hours a day. I never stopped doing my homework. Constant study helps make everything easy. Doing well in every subject is important for achieving good results. Therefore, I worked hard on all the subjects. Besides, the advice given by my teachers helped me overcome the hurdles.
OP What are your future plans?
NM I want to be an engineer. I believe engineers play a vital role in changing the infrastructure of the state. So I plan to enroll in a reputed college. I will be happy if I am selected in any National Institute of Technology (NIT).
OP To whom would you dedicate your success?
NM I will dedicate all my achievements to my parents. My father Priyadarshi Mohanty and mother Swapna Mohanty are the major source of motivation for me. Besides, my school teachers also supported me at each step. I will always remain grateful to them.
OP What advise would you give to other
students?
NM Failure often comes in the path of success. They should not worry about all hurdles. Learn from each failure and this will lead you to success. Many students usually stop trying after they fail to achieve their goals. They should try again and again until they succeed. They should remember that determination and hard work will help them to be successful.
