Daringbadi: The Forest department arrested one accused and detained two labourers for interrogation and seized a tractor full of ‘sal’ logs at Simanbadi forest range under this block in Kandhamal district late Thursday night.
The arrestee has been identified as Charan BIndhani, the driver of the tractor, of Padanketa village under this block’s Danekbadi Panchayat.
A team led by range officer Madhav Chandra Behera and a flying squad were carrying out a joint patrolling at the time of the arrest. Baliguda DFO Biswanathan Bilanbhar was tipped off from a reliable source that a tractor full of ‘sal’ logs was being smuggled out of the forest. He passed on the information to the patrolling team who rushed to the spot and seized the marked vehicle.
“We have arrested the driver and interrogation of other two persons is on to ascertain their complicity in the crime,” informed Behera adding the driver would be court forwarded after his medical examination at Daringbadi community health centre Friday.
