Trader arrested for extortion; 4.5L seized

Joda: Police arrested a crorepati mineral trader Mukesh Singhania on the charge of extorting money from others here Wednesday. An amount of 4.5 lakh in cash was seized from him.

Police found the cash that Singhania had hoarded at his residence, Joda IIC Sumit Kumar Soren said. According to police, Sighanaia extorted `1 lakh from a truck owner Ranjan Parida and demanded an additional `50,000 from him. The accused even sent five hooligans to Parida’s residence Tuesday evening to extort the money. Parida lodged a complaint against Singhania Wednesday following which the police raided his residence sand seized the cash.

During investigation, police also got important leads about Singhania’s extortion activities. Singhania, who is into mineral transport and real estate, wielded his clout in Joda area, police said. He was also involved in illegal financial activities, alleged several truckers. PNN
