Puri: Tragedy struck Gandapada village under Delang block in Puri district Wednesday afternoon, as two minor girls drowned while taking bath in a local pond in the area.
The deceased minor girls were identified to be 10-year-old Liza, the daughter of Biranchi Behera and 8-year-old Dipti, the daughter of Bijaya Behera.

The two girls had gone to a nearby pond to take a bath. While bathing, the duo slipped into deep water and drowned.
After seeing the bodies floating in the pond, some local villagers raised an alarm and informed their family members. Though the locals rescued the girls and rushed them to a hospital at Delang, doctors declared them dead.
Even though the exact cause of this tragic incident is not known, police suspect that the duo slipped into deep water in the pond.
On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe in this connection.
