Bhubaneswar, April 14: Care of persons sustaining multiple injuries have become a challenging task in pre-hospital, emergency and intensive care departments for which the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here is hosting a one-day ultrasound trauma life support course for students beginning May 16.
The popular and highly sought after course will be handled by experts of trauma care centre of AIIMS-Delhi will be here at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar to train about 20 paramedics for applications have been invited from interested participants by May 1. Interested candidates will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 1500.
“It becomes difficult when one performs trauma resuscitation and advanced cardiac life support protocols in a blinded fashion. Ultrasound has been typically described as an extension of the palpating hand and a visual stethoscope during the physical examination, providing both anatomic and functional information complementary to the routine physical examination for which the course has been designed,” said a doctor.
The course will be organised by the institute as part of its ongoing course in emergency management at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. Sanjiv Bhoi, additional professor and in-charge of department of emergency medicine and Deepak Agrawal, additional professor, neurosurgery and gamma-knife of AIIMS Delhi, will impart training.
The experts will enlighten the students with the basic introduction of ultrasound including airway ultrasound, tracheal injuries, threatened airway and airway confirmation. The candidates will also be taught lung ultrasound, rush protocol, pump cardiac ultrasound in trauma, musculo-skeletal ultrasound and others.
