Pottangi: As many as 60 teachers who were found to be absent from schools or were noticed leaving their schools before closing hours have been served with show cause notices by additional block education officer (ABEO) of Pottangi block in Koraput district.
A number of school teachers here habitually closed their schools early to go home before hours. Pottangi block education office ABEO Rajanikant Badanayak came across some of them waiting at a bus stop waiting for their buses by the highway side.
He immediately visited the school and made example of the errant teachers by issuing show cause notices. He also found some of the teachers were absent without application. They were also put to task.
Since June 22, Badanayak has so far issued show cause notices to 60 teachers. During his visit, he has found teachers of most schools in Kotia, Nuagaon, Deopattangi, Sambai, Pukali, Chandaka and Ralegada panchayats are either absent from their duties or suspending classes to go home early.
Meanwhile, some influential families enjoying political leaders’ support have started mounting pressures on the ABEO to be lenient on the truant teachers, said a source wishing not to be named.
