Bhubaneswar: The long drawn tussle between Jeypore MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati and Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria of Congress ended after the intervention of senior leaders at a meeting here Monday.
In the wake of the change of guard, the newly constituted Coordination Committee of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) held its meeting at the party office here to form District Congress Committees (DCCs) and Block Congress Committees (BCCs).
The issue of rift between the two party MLAs of Koraput district was discussed at the meeting. Intervening in the matter, PCC in-charge Jitendra Singh has resolved it, sources said.
After attending the meeting, Bahinipati and Sagaria were seen hugging each other. Bahinipati said, “There was no rift in between us. Now, we will work and fight for Congress.”
Sagaria also said, “Congress is a big party and if there is some indifferences, it is sorted out. Today we became brothers. We will fight unitedly now,” he said. The state Congress is going to observe Kranti Diwas August 9 this year. It was decided at the meeting to hoist party flag in the house of every Congress leader.
Briefing reporters about the meeting, PCC President Niranjan Patnaik said, “Today, we discussed in details how to revamp our party in Odisha from the block to the state level. Our leaders have made various suggestions to strengthen the party at the grassroots, booth, block and district levels.”
It was decided at the meeting that a senior leader and member of the 31- Coordination Committee will be entrusted either with a revenue district or parliamentary constituency-wise, Patnaik said.
When asked about proposed Odisha visit of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi, Patnaik said, “We are preparing for a programme of Rahul Gandhi in August, may be after August 20.”
