Kendrapara: In a crackdown on criminals, Kendrapara police late Friday night arrested two notorious criminals following an encounter in Kendrapara district.
The accused have been identified as Ananta Prasad Jena and Prabhat Nayak. The duo has sustained injuries in an ambush by police personnel.
According to police officials, they received tip-offs regarding the presence of the anti-socials near Kalapola on Marshaghai-Angulai road. The Kendrapara police launched a raid in the area before engaging the two criminals in an encounter.
Seeing the cops, they tried to flee in order to evade arrest. This led to an exchange of fire between the cops and the duo in which Jena and Nayak received bullet injuries on two legs and right hand respectively in the exchange of fire. They were immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Kendrapara, for treatment.
Police sources said that the duo was the prime accused in murder of a young businessman Gagan Bihari Sahoo near Hatia village last month and were involved in over 15 criminal cases.
