Malkangiri: A pall of gloom descended on Khairapali village of Nayakaguda panchayat under Mathili block in Malkangiri district after two toddlers drowned in a pond Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Shreya Kape (2), daughter of Laxman Kape, and Gouri (2), daughter of Ram Kape of the village.
According to sources, the kids accidentally slipped into the pond while they were playing on its bank in the morning.
When the duo didn’t return home for long, their parents went on a frantic search in the village only to find their lifeless bodies floating in the pond.
The deceased duo’s family members rushed the children to Pangam primary health centre (PHC), where doctors declared them ‘brought dead’.
Their bodies were sent for post-mortem at Mathili community health centre (CHC).
